Facebook’s outline is one of simplicity. It is elgantly designed and easily navigated. From what i have personally seen, new users discover its functionality very quickly. everything that is blue is clickable. images, most text, and icons are all clickable items. all the pages are consistent with this theme, allowing for users to understand the whole site simply from figuring out one page.
new users will click and play with different pieces of the page until he/she discovers what each personal item does. since every page has a link to nearly every other page, the site places very little pressure on the user’s memory. the user’s attention is drawn more to the photos on the page, since there are no dividing lines between the sections of the pages and the dominating color of the page is blue, which i have alluded to several times and probably will again. blue is a calming color, of course, but that’s the not the purpose for the choice of color. the blue actually draws very little attention to itself, allowing the user to simply forget that there is actually a page before them and makes the focus more on the actual content of the page, which is where the focus of any page should be.
